Water aid was established 21 July 1981

Why was water aid established?

WaterAid is working with the government to help extend access to safe water, sanitation and improved hygiene for rural communities in Monze District. They decide to unite, to reach the millions of people living without clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. WaterAid is officially established on 21 July 1981. Our first projects start in Zambia and Sri Lanka.

What are water aids aims?

While installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more. We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

How many countries do water aid work with and where are they?

We change millions of lives every year, working in 28 countries to provide clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Our work is supported by offices in the UK, US, Australia, Sweden, Canada, Japan and India.

Which organisation was the ‘rain for good’ advert created by?

Developed by the creative agency Atomic London, the Rain for Good campaign focuses on the progress Water Aid has made, rather than the problems it faces.

Who was the main character in ‘rain for good’?

Claudia was their main character in the advert, the fact they have given her a name humanises her it achieve guilt as women we have maternal guilt and feel a need to help children

What does ‘rain for good’ advert aim to show?

To put an end to water shortages in Africa and Water Aid has tried to take a different approach to charity advertising by focusing on positivity and progress rather than problems.
